A very good friend, Gary Campbell hosted a party the other night in conjunction with K-News AM radio at the new Paymons Mediterranean Café & Lounge on West Sahara Ave. The party was to kick off his new talk program titled "Starstruck Radio." The Mediterranean, in case you are unaware, is a fabulous Greek style restaurant, with its original location at Eastern and Flamingo one of the favorites of locals and informed tourist alike. The second and new location maintains the tradition and the food is as usual, fantastic!
Gary for many years was partnered up with Connie Ross and the Imperial Palace Hotel & Casino with a radio and television show that was aired nationally. The two hosted the show from the Auto Collection and always had some great entertainers as guest and was very entertaining. The new show, from what I've been told, will basically run the gamut of interviews between entertainers, local people of interest and some politicians. "It will be a fun show," Gary said. The program will air live on Saturday nights.
Hofbrauhaus Las Vegas, located on the corner across the street from the Hard Rock Resort, is celebrating its First Annual Summer Asparagus Festival, which is an elegant vegetable of Bavarian Kings. During asparagus season, every eatery in Germany offers its regular menu and a "spargelkarte," a very special asparagus menu that lists many variations of the prized vegetable. Until August 31st the local eatery will continue the tradition by becoming the place for locals and tourist to experience a true festival menu, with both white and green varieties served for lunch and dinner. Stop by gang, you'll really enjoy the food and entertainment... real Oom Pah bands from Germany!
"Fever! The Music of Miss Peggy Lee" starring my good friends Lezlie Anders and her legendary husband Buddy Greco will open at the Judy Bayley Theatre on the campus of UNLV Wednesday August 18th and will run through Sunday August 29th. This is a fantastic show and one deserving of SRO crowds every night. I have reviewed this particular show a couple of times and each time the show gets tighter and tighter. The last time it was produced locally was at the Suncoast Casino and it was SRO crowds.

Ms. Anders is absolutely magnificent as Ms. Lee and her vocals are right on. If you were a fan of the late, great songstress then this is a must see show for you. And, if you are in the younger set who may have heard of Ms. Lee and want to learn more about her, go see this show. This is a history class in great music. Buddy (I know him well enough that I can call him that) not only produces the show in conjunction with the musical department at UNLV, but arranged the music and will be conducting the Benny Goodman Tribute Band (Ms. Lee and Buddy both worked for the original band). A percentage of the tickets, priced at $30.00 and $25.00 for seniors and military personal, will go to the UNLV Performing Arts and the Nevada SPCA No Kill Sanctuary.
