Loud, different and fun. Joe's Crab Shack, a chain restaurant, has a few locations around Las Vegas. This restaurant is know for it's laid back attitude and big portion fish platters. When they originally opened shop here they offered several creole and cajun style dishes but that dropped by the wayside in favor of more traditional sea catches. Their famous tag line..."Joe knows crabs." is evident throughout the dining area; from the clothesline hung t-shirts to the menu items.
A good place to start is with their crab dip. This can be a meal in itself so you'll want to share it . My favorite entree is the fried oysters. Straight from the gulf coast, these tender morsels will melt in your mouth. If you're not an oyster fan try the wide variety of shrimp dishes or catfish. They tend to overcook the fried clams so that's not a good selection. They also have sandwiches, like po-boys and grilled chicken, as well as salads for the non-seafaring diners.
Be sure to read the menu carefully since it is written in a crazy mixed up kind of presentation. If you read every word, you won't miss anything. Check the table tents for interesting drinks of the month too.
The atmosphere is open and boisterous. The decor is indescribable and it begins outside with an old coastline shack appearance with a motelish neon arrow sign pointing the way to the entrance. The wait staff frequently breaks into dance across the floor and encourages patrons to participate. The prices are down right inexpensive for the amount of food you get, so the line to get in may be long at times. A play yard in front keeps the kids entertained while you wait. The risque T-shirts are available for purchase, just ask your waiter, he'll add it to your tab. The food quality is fair to good along with the service.
