PORTOBELLA
Restaurant Review
Reviewed: 5/15/98

Fresh calamari! Portobella recently opened it's doors where the New York Pasta Company was located. This upscale Italian eatry has the freshest calamari I've eaten in town. The dark wood interior and crisp white table linen give it an airy of elegance at a non-elegant price. They offer a nice bread tray with fresh ground pepper in extra virgin olive oil for dipping. Waitstaff expain the few daily specials, which on the day of this review, was open lobster ravioli. Sounds intriguing...but I stuck with a traditional Italian meal, the Rigatoni with spicy sausage and sweet peppers. It was very good, the tomato based sauce was a perfect blend of tomato and herbs. The Beef Tenderloin was a succulent three inch filet with fresh mashed red potatoes and thin crisp onion rings. They have full bar service although the menu makes it appear as if they only provide beer and wine. There is a nice patio on the side for outside dining or just a drink and hor's deourves before going home.

The service was good. And the atmosphere was pleasant. Although it does not have a menu typical for children, parents were dining with their children. Prices are moderate.
